Open Invitation to APRIL Stakeholders Meeting in Riau
APRIL Group’s Sustainable Forest Management Policy (SFMP 2.0) calls for increased engagement with civil society groups in order to keep them informed of developments related to our operations and to gather their inputs. In line with this, we have been organizing a series of meetings with community groups in Riau since June this year.
A meeting will be called on 15 September to discuss the development of livelihood plantation (tanaman kehidupan) for the community in Pulau Padang and to pursue ongoing consultations on the establishment of a formal grievance response and resolution mechanism. The meeting will take place at the Premiere Hotel, Pekanbaru, 12:00 – 17:00.
Of the 1,670 hectares planned for community livelihood plantation, we have completed the development of 426.6 hectares to date. This consultation will cover the remaining 1,243.5 hectares. In the villages where the tanaman kehidupan has been plotted, residents have requested the planting of rubber trees; this forum aims to gather inputs from relevant NGOs.
The grievance response and resolution mechanism will involve a process for receiving, verifying, reviewing and addressing communities’ concerns in relation to our operations.
